Seismic Vulnerability Assessment of Masonry Residential Buildings in the Older Parts of Tehran through Fragility Curves and Basic RVS Scores

The present study aims to determine the Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) basic scores for four representative Unreinforced Masonry (URM) and their corresponding Confined (CM) buildings. Two types of analysis were carried out on finite element models: modal push-over analysis. It was observed that confining URM walls with horizontal vertical RC ties leads a significant improvement in both ultimate strength ductility ratio natural frequency studied buildings strongly influenced by walls’ relative area. push-over-based fragility curves indicate there is an average 100% increase spectral acceleration related 50% exceedance probability CP performance level CM compared Moreover, resulted RVS score 45% higher those sensitivity seismicity region lower, thus greatly reducing vulnerability masonry
